Cincinnati Bengals cut Jordan Shipley after ACL costs WR year of pro career – NFL News
Wide receiver Jordan Shipley has received bad news at the time when he was nearing full recovery from a knee injury he sustained in September 2011 that the Cincinnati Bengals have decided to cut him loose.
Bengals’ decision has come rather as a surprise for many as the team has otherwise remained patient with the recovery process of the receiver and it was only a matter of a few days that he could have hit the field again, fully recovered and fit.
Jordan had made himself available at training camp of the team but unfortunately remained limited in workout scheme. This was probably the main factor behind his waiver by Bengals.
The receiver had suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in left knee in September last year and remained in recovery phase until July 30 this year when he was finally cleared for practice.
He did not look comfortable and fully ready for training and therefore was kept limited. However, he was progressing continuously and there was a hope that he could have rejoined the squad in the regular season next month.
Shipley has now returned to a phase of uncertainty as far as immediate future prospects are concerned. It is unclear if he will be able to find an opportunity elsewhere in the league immediately after the release by Bengals.
Some commentators believe he can take at least another month to return to action without any problem. The possibility might hit some delay if the player suffers any setback.
Bengals did not give much explanation to the sudden decision of his waiver, especially when they had waited for him almost a year to return and he was almost there as far as the fitness was concerned.
The cut nevertheless brings Shipley’s stint with Bengals to an end, which had remained limited to only two preseason games after his selection as a third-round pick off the 2010 draft.
