Cincinnati Bengals defensive backs coach Kevin Coyle on Miami Dolphins radar for similar role – NFL News
The Cincinnati Bengals confirmed on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, that their defensive backs' coach, Kevin Coyle, is being pursued by the Miami Dolphins' team management, with prospects of accepting a similar role with them.
According to Bengals' management, the team has sought permission to interview Coyle for the position.
Coyle is expected to meet the team’s officials on Wednesday to discuss the prospects.
If selected for the role, he will replace Dolphins’ defensive backs' coach, Todd Bowles.
Bowles is working as an interim coach since the firing of their former coach, Tony Sparano.
The Bengals' official is reported to have backing from Dolphins' new coach, Joe Philbin, which increases his chances of being picked up for the open slot in the team.
He is the second Cincinnati Bengals’ coaching staff being pursued by a team around the National Football League (NFL).
Earlier, the Indianapolis Colts had sought to interview another one of Bengals' officials as a potential candidate for their head coach position.
The Colts fired their head coach, Jim Caldwell, and since then are in search of a new head coach, and Cincinnati is one of the potential places for them to find one.
Coyle has played a role in building up Bengals' defence line, which had a major role in their successful run during the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season.
The Cincinnati Bengals were the third team from the American Football Conference (AFC) North division to have reached the playoff round through a wild card game.
This had become possible by an expected development of a favourable situation on the league’s points table.
Despite the fact that the Tennessee Titans finished the regular season with a better score of 9-7, the opportunity went to Cincinnati Bengals.
Their hopes of playing the postseason further were ended by their loss against the Houston Texans.
Away from their position in the 2011 NFL run, the team expects a decision on the future of their defensive backs' coach, Coyle, within a week following his interview with the Dolphins.
The Dolphins have been going through a number of changes in their staff and the players’ squad.
A couple of days earlier, they were reported to have joined the New York Jets among the candidates on the wish list for possible signing of Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning.
Manning, who has not played for the Colts throughout the 2011 NFL regular season due to a surgery for his neck injury in September 2011, is increasingly becoming unlikely to play again for the team, with new general manager and a prospective new coach in
place.
The Dolphins said that they will go for signing the QB, if he is cut loose from his contact with Colts in future.
