Cincinnati Bengals hopes for a playoffs wild card berth seem tough but possible – NFL News
The Cincinnati Bengals having failed to stay on the course to a divisional title still hoped they were well in race for a wild card playoff berth.
The Bengals lost their divisional title chances by losing their last game against the Houston Texans. They are now trailed behind their archrivals Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers who are tied atop 10-3 in the American
Football Conference (AFC) north division.
Until the week before last week the Bengals (5-7) were in position to workout to stay intact for the title race.
The side now 7-6 reckons that it was difficult but the chances were there that they could make it to playoff.
"We're by no means out of anything," said right guard Bobbie Williams. "Our chances are a little tougher, but we can still finish up these last three with a very successful record. Then hey, let the chips fall where they may after
that."
They are in race for a wild card spot with New York Jets (8-5). The Jets are ahead of the Tennessee Titans, another team hoping for a wild card possibility, and Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals however stand better chances than
the Titans given their good performance against some good teams.
The held all chances for the playoffs but their close finish against the Texans 19-20 game take the opportunity further away from them. Now they will hope for favour of the luck and a 100 per cent performance to go through in postseason
phase.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said that there should not be any excuse and that the players must perform up to the mark to keep their chances alive.
"We've had some injuries, but you've got to play," Lewis said. "And we've got to make plays. We had an opportunity yesterday to make plays. Obviously we've got only two players back there that were with us most of last season."
The Bengals are also facing few problems of injuries to their key players. This included their right tackle Andre Smith. Smith missed Bengals’ game on past Sunday due to an ankle injury. There is no final word on his recovery and
chances to join the line-up for their next game.
