Cincinnati Bengals in deal with 3 players, more signing expected –NFL News
The Cincinnati Bengals who have been a relatively calm unit in the postseason have recently come out with some reshuffling of the squad with a couple of additions and a new signing.
In a rather surprising move, the management on Friday, March 23, 2012, confirmed to have re-signed deals with two players and brought another one off the free agency on a fresh deal.
Those who retained by the team are cornerback, Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones, and offensive tackle, Anthony Collins. Terms of their new deals have not been made public by either of the stakeholders.
Bengals have also signed defensive end, Derrick Harvey, off the free agency. He previously had played for the Denver Broncos and was cut by them before start of the free agency. He also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars for a couple of years.
Either of the management or the player’s agent have not disclosed the terms of the deal.
Jones will come back to Bengals into third year of his career. He missed most of the 2011-12 National Football League (NFL) season due to a neck problem.
The player managed to play only eight games during the entire season, but now has been given another opportunity by the team.
Jones has recently made headlines due to an admitted misdemeanour charge of disorderly conduct.
Another charge of resisting his arrest was dropped by the prosecution following an agreement from the player for pleading guilty to the previous count of disorderly conduct.
Jones, in spite of escaping punishment successfully, faces a disciplinary action from the league office. It is unclear yet what punishment the league will hand over to the player.
In total, Jones has played the professional football league for five years.
Meanwhile, Collins, who has played the league for four years, will come back into his fifth season. He has played the entire professional career with Bengals.
Some reports have now hinted at more such signings coming from Bengals within the next few weeks. The team, which managed to reach the playoffs through a wild card opportunity last season, is said to be looking to consolidate its strength at certain positions.
Bengals were third most successful team from the American Football Conference (AFC) North division in the last season.
They were left behind in the later part of the season in spite of having remained neck and neck with the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers on the points table until almost third quarter of the season.
At the end, they lost the past season run to newly emerged playoff team, the Houston Texans. Texans beat them in first ever playoff game they played after finishing on top of the AFC South division.
