Cincinnati Bengals overpower St. Louis Rams with a 20-13 win – NFL Week 15 Recap
St. Louis Rams might have succeeded in containing Cincinnati Bengals until the halftime, but that could not prevent the Rams from getting their fifth straight and 12th overall defeat of the season. At the Edward Jones
Dome, the Bengals overpowered the hosts 20-13 in the week-15 game of the National Football League current season on Sunday to end their two-game losing streak.
The Rams continue their hopeless run this season and Coach Steve Spagnuolo seemed to have been falling short of excuses. However, he is still unmoved with the defeats, and hopes to win the next games.
“We know that the goals, objectives, that we set out for this year are no longer attainable, other than celebrate an NFL win in the locker room. We’ve got two more chances to do that and that still means a great deal to me and
to the guys. Aside from that, the mindset will be in some ways to continue to build and do the right things to build,” the coach said.
The Bengals put their noses in front in the first quarter of the game through a 21-yard field goal from Mike Nugent.
The Rams came back strongly in the second quarter where Josh Brown scored two field goals, one from 26 yards and the other from 43 yards. At halftime, the Rams were leading the game 6-3.
In the third quarter, the Bengals first equalised the score, thanks to a 41-yard field goal by Nugent. Later, they initiated a drive and Bernard Scott managed a one-yard run to score a touchdown and put his team in-charge 13-6.
In the final quarter, Cedric Benson rushed for four yards to get another touchdown for the Bengals to increase the lead 20-6. The Rams tried, but could only reduce the deficit by scoring a touchdown at 1:08. Kellen Clemens sent
a 25-yard pass to Danario Alexander to take the score to 20-13, but no move could be made after that.
Bengals Coach Marvin Lewis was pleased for the victory, knowing that the playoff-hopes are still alive for his team. He was of the view that his team could try to win the games and the results of the other games are out of their
control.
“It is good to win and it keeps us going and doing what we need to do, the other things will take care of themselves. We can’t control that,” he said.
The Bengals are now going to face Arizona Cardinals in the week-16 game whereas the Rams will look for their third victory of the season as they face Pittsburgh Steelers.
