Cincinnati Bengals put LG Travelle Wharton, others on IR list – NFL News
In an effort to get down to 75-player roster strength by the deadline of this Monday, as per the professional league regulator National Football League (NFL) rules, the Cincinnati Bengals have introduced some extensive changes to the squad.
The team has received a timely help by placing injured players on the injured reserve (IR) list and let go a few others to clear up the roster.
Among the players who are put on the IR list is left guard Travelle Wharton. He damaged his right knee in the preseason opening game of the team and from very first impression he had appeared set to be out of the season.
His injury was so severe that the player could not help himself to be on the sidelines on feet; he was shifted on a cart, apparently in serious pain. Later, scans results showed his injury was of a serious nature and there was no chance if he could manage
recovery and return to action this season.
Now the Bengals have officially confirmed him to be out of the side for the rest of the season by placing him on the IR list. Other players on the list are cornerbacks Shaun Prater and Brandon Ghee. They have suffered knee and wrist injuries, respectively.
The team has also confirmed receiver Taveon Rogers and Robert Sands on the IR list with shoulder and chest problems.
Meanwhile, the team has released quarterback Tyler Hansen, defensive end Luke Black, guard Matt Murphy and halfback Aaron Brown as part of the roster-cleansing drive.
Although the team has officially not confirmed the total number of players left on its pay roster now, the number as confirmed by independent reports is 76, only a player above the target.
Some reports also confirmed that the players who have been released by the team are into very initial phase of the pro league careers, hired for help during training camp campaigns.
As per rules of the league, all teams have to cut down their roster strengths to 53 players each, while they can maintain up to 93 players during offseason and training camp phases.
