Cincinnati Bengals sign LB Roddrick Muckelroy, place Thomas Howard on IR – NFL News
The Cincinnati Bengals have signed linebacker Roddrick Muckelroy on an unknown contract to replace LB Thomas Howard, who has been placed on injured reserve (IR) list and is expected to miss the entire season with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury
he suffered during the team practice on Thursday.
Muckelroy, a fourth-round pick of the Bengals in the 2010 draft, played the college league from Texas. He started three preseason games for the team this year and managed a sack and 17 tackles.
Terms of the new deal have not been disclosed by any side. He nevertheless is expected to play at a backup position, while the team weighs options to replace Thomas with either Vincent Rey or Dan Skuta on the starting line.
Thomas played the season opener for the Bengals versus the Baltimore Ravens and registered four tackles and a sack.
It is rather unfortunate that he is inflicted with the serious injury, which will require him quite some time to heal and rehab. He is due to earn $2.4 million in the last year of his contract, and most probably will be heading to free agency at the end
of this season unless the Bengals agree to fresh terms with him.
The Bengals are taking on the Cleveland Browns this Sunday with an aim to rebound on their humiliating loss at the Ravens’ hands, which a majority of members of the organisation agree was a surprise to them.
Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco made fun of the team’s defence. Some of the players still find it hard to swallow and digest the loss and are said to be looking forward to letting their anger and frustration out on the Browns.
All seems well at all other positions as far as fitness of players is concerned. QB Andy Dalton is particularly upbeat about the readiness for the next game; he unfortunately could not provide help against the Ravens.
The Bengals desperately need victories to avoid another below-average season, which can certainly be expected from them given they have never been able to reach playoffs in two consecutive seasons, except for once when they played their only Super Bowl title
game and lost.
