Cincinnati Bengals thrash Kansas City Chiefs 28-6 in Week 11 – NFL Recap
Cincinnati Bengals got their second win in a row as they defeated tactless Kansas City Chiefs by 28-6 in Week 11 game on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO.
It was an impressive overall performance by the Bengals. The offence easily went past the porous Chiefs defence, while the defence was as stiff as a wall.
Bengals are now third in the American Football Conference (AFC) North with a 5-5 record. Meanwhile, Chiefs have reached new low as they currently stand at bottom of the league with a demoralising 1-9 record.
It was another dull game for Chiefs fans as the stadium remained half empty throughout the game with most of the fans wearing black in order to mark their protest against the team’s dismal performance this season. According to the Associated Press, Chiefs
head coach Romeo Crennel said:
"It's all about the mentality that the players have, because when you lose, nobody is happy about losing. Everybody is frustrated about losing. . . What we want and what we need is to try to win a game to make us feel better, give us a little confidence,
and then if you win one, maybe we can win another."
It was an emphatic performance by Bengals offence as they completely manhandled the Chiefs’ weak offence.
Quarterback Andy Dalton was the most impressive of the lot as he completed 18 out of 29 passes for 230 yards and scored two touchdowns and no interception.
The quarterback also carried the ball three times for 13 yards and scored a rushing touchdown. Talking after the game, Dalton said:
"We felt like we gave a couple of games away. Now we've got momentum and we've got to keep it going. We've had two great wins, full-team wins, with everybody doing their part, and we've got to keep that going."
For Chiefs, both quarterbacks Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn played in the game, but failed to put up a good performance.
The running game played an influential role in the win as running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis rushed 101 yards in 25 carries and scored a touchdown.
For the second consecutive time, Chiefs got an early lead, thanks to a 34-yard field goal from kicker Ryan Succop.
However, the celebrations ended shortly when Dalton threw a four-yard pass to wide receiver A. J. Green to score a touchdown as Bengals ended the first quarter 7-3.
After that, it was all Bengals as Dalton ran for a yard to score a touchdown in the second quarter which was followed by Green-Ellis scoring another one-yard rushing touchdown.
Chiefs managed to slightly reduce the deficit later in the first half with another field goal from Succop as first half finished 6-21.
After a slow-paced third quarter, Bengals scored once again after Dalton threw a 14-yard pass to wide receiver Mohamed Sanu to finish the game 28-6.
