Cincinnati Bengals’ waiver: DE Derrick Harvey’s pro career appears heading to disappointing end
In less than four months to signing of defensive end Derrick Harvey, the Cincinnati Bengals confirmed putting him on the waivers on Sunday and it looks the player’s pro career may well be on the line prematurely.
The Bengals added Derrick to their squad off the free agency on a year contract in March this year but apparently the DE fell short of making an impression on the team’s coaches and managers. He had become available in the free agency market after his release
by the Jacksonville Jaguars in July last year.
A number of commentators have noted the player to be another draft bust that has recently made headlines in the National Football League (NFL), failing himself in the pro career prospects too soon.
This is well reflective in his past three season records during which he could manage eight sacks and 70 tackles and never clicked to the form that the Jaguars had envisioned at the time of his selection off the 2008 NFL draft.
He nevertheless is not the first player to fail in the pro league while coming off a superb college league career but it is rather unfortunate for him as in spite of his consistent failings he had looked to be a very ambitious player.
Still, a number of commentators have not discarded him entirely out of the league’s ranks, saying he can be groomed through specialised help but that will require him to invest a lot of time and resources.
Given his repo in the pro circles is damaged because of the poor form, no team will be willing to commit any sort of investment to him in short to longer run. So it is entirely up to the player’s potential for affordability of resources for his training
and grooming.
Otherwise, it looks too difficult for him to get a call from any other side in the league at the moment. Even if he is picked up by any team, his role will be very limited. He is heading to a disappointing end of his brief pro career otherwise.
