Cincinnati Masters 2010, Andy Murray narrowly wins, Nadal reaches Quarterfinals
The fourth ranked tennis player, Andy Murray had to fight hard to win against Ernests Gulbis in the third round of the ATP Cincinnati Masters Tennis tournament. The twenty-three year old Scott won the clash in a total of three sets. The final match score was 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-4).
Ernests broke on a total of two occasions to power into a lead of 4-1, however the Latvian held on to win the first set of the match.
An improved Andy came back into the match and won the second as well as the decisive set after a tough clash against Gulbis. As a result of this victory, Andy Murray, who has now extended his winning streak to a total of seven matches will face Mardy Fish, a wild card American in his next round match of the Cincinnati Masters tennis 2010.
Murray, after the match while commenting on the heat which reached over 32 degrees Centigrade in Cincinnati, said that it made the conditions even harder to play.
"It was really hot out there and I struggled to get hold of the ball”, said Murray, who captured the 2010 Canadian Open title just a few days ago.
Gulbis was hitting quite well and looked comfortable particularly when he was winning points during the first set of the match. Murray then started to make some first serves and then gave his opponent a tough time in winning the tie-break.
Murray will now meet Mardy in the final eight. Both of them have so far played against each other on a total of six occasions and share the victories. However, the thirty-sixth ranked American tennis player in the World came out on top in both of their previous two clashes.
"When I faced him on both occasions this season, I was actually struggling with my game. However, I have previously had some good victories against him and moreover the most important thing at the moment is that I am playing at my very best and much better as compared to some few months ago. I just need to play my natural game and I will end up winning my match against Mardy Fish at Cincinnati”, added Murray.
Murray, who was without any question having a tough time in the heat, fought back after missing the first set to grab the second and level the game.
Both the players struggled during the second set of the match with Murray correcting himself on various occasions. Whereas, Gulbis changed his racquet, after hitting it against the ground and deforming it in frustration.
It was tough to separate both of them going into the last set tie-break. However, Murray in the end did well to win the battle in the third set of the match.
In other action on Thursday, the top seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal also battled back to avoid the upset against his French opponent, Julien Benneteau in a total of three sets. The final match score was 5-7 7-6 (8-6) 6-2.
As a result of this victory, the top ranked Rafael Nadal has reached the quarterfinal round of the ATP Cincinnati Masters tennis tournament 2010.
Nadal after the match said, "A clash like this one actually boosts up my confidence level".
Rafa will meet Marcos Baghdatis in his quarterfinal clash at Cincinnati. Baghdatis has made his way into the quarters after hammering down the seventh seeded Tomas Berdych in straight sets. The final match score was 7-5 6-4.
Meanwhile, the third ranked Serbian tennis ace, Novak Djokovic toppled his Argentinean opponent, David Nalbandian on Thursday with a final match score of 6-1 7-6 (9-7).
The Serbian will either meet the fifth-seeded Swedish, Robin Soderling, or American player, Andy Roddick in the ATP Cincinnati Masters tennis tournament 2010.
