Cincinnati Masters 2010: Andy Murray beats Jeremy Chardy
British number one tennis ace Andy Murray defeated Jeremy Chardy in the second round match of the ATP Cincinnati Masters tennis tournament in a total of three sets on Wednesday. The final match score was 6-3, 6-7, (3-7) and 6-2.
As a result of this victory, the 23-year-old Andy Murray will meet Latvia's Ernests Gulbis in his third round match of the Cincinnati Masters 2010. Gulbis has made his way into the next round of the competition after beating thirteen seed Juergen Melzer from Austria in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 and 7-6 (7-5).
Murray despite winning yesterday’s match was unhappy with his performance at Centre Court in Cincinnati on Wednesday. The fourth ranked tennis player said, "It was quite frustrating towards the end of the match”.
The Scott further added, “I didn’t commit many mistakes during the first set of the match as compared to Chardy however what went wrong from my side in the second set was my serve as I didn’t serve well enough. But thankfully, I managed to come back and win the second as well as the decisive set of the match at the Cincinnati Tennis Club on Wednesday”.
During the first set of the match, Murray looked all set for a comfortable victory against the 58th ranked tennis player. However, Melzer did well to give the Scott some tough time in the next set of the match. Chardy’s forehand during the second set was quite remarkable that amazed the Scott as well. However, Melzer failed to maintain the momentum in the next set and as a result, lost the battle in the end.
Murray after the match while commenting on his next clash against Gulbis said, "He is one of the fine players in the game of tennis and therefore I will have to work on my weaknesses in order to win my next match of the Cincinnati Masters tennis tournament. I will practice really hard for my next match after taking some rest. The surface is extremely quick and so it’s not easy for me to control the ball on the court”.
In other action on Wednesday, world number one Rafael Nadal defeated his American opponent Taylor Dent to win his opening match of the Cincinnati Masters on Wednesday. The 2010 Wimbledon winner won the clash in a total of two sets with a final match score of 6-2 and 7-5.
"The second set of the match was quite close however I was lucky enough to broke him as I had relatively more opportunities than him however the victory is well deserving without any question”, said the Spaniard after the match.
As a result of this victory, the top seeded Rafa will meet Frenchmen Julien Benneteau in his next round clash in Cincinnati. Julien made his way into the next round of the competition after defeating Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka in a total of two sets. The final match score read 6-4 and 6-2.
Meanwhile, third ranked tennis ace Novak Djokovic claimed victory with a score of 6-3 and 7-5 against Viktor Troicki on Wednesday. Despite triumphing, the Serbian was not satisfied with the way he finished off the match.
"It was not a very good set as it highlighted a couple of unforced errors from both of us. I was finding difficulty in smashing the ball easily however the good thing is that I won the match in the end”, said the third ranked Novak Djokovic after the match.
As a result of this win, Djokovic will meet the 2010 Washington Classic winner David Nalbandian in his next round match.
