Cincinnati Masters 2010: Andy Roddick and Sam Querrey win opening matches
American tennis ace Andy Roddick knocked down Sergiy Stakhovsky from Ukraine in the first round match of the Cincinnati Masters on Monday. Roddick got the better of Sergiy in a total of three sets with a final match score of 6-4, 6-7 (5) and 6-1.
Due to this victory, the America’s Andy Roddick has successfully made a comeback to the ATP tour on Monday after missing the Rogers Cup last week as a result of mononucleosis.
While commenting on his health, the American clarified that he is recovering and doctors are of the view that he will be perfectly alright in no time.
As far as his Monday’s performance is concerned, Roddick did serve quite well throughout the match without any question. The seeded tennis ace from the United States of America served a total of ten aces and grabbed 81% of his serve points. Roddick has so far won the Cincinnati Masters on two previous occasions in his career in 2003 and 2006.
After a tiebreak loss during the second set of the match on Monday, the American immediately came back in the game strongly and won every single point on his serve during the third set of the match. He then continued his momentum and defeated the Ukrainian during the next service game, improving his lead to 2-0 during the third set of the match in Cincinnati.
The American never looked back and went on to win the third set as well as the match against Sergiy Stakhovsky on Monday.  Roddick concluded the match during the seventh game of the third set by once again grabbing every single point of his service game against his Ukrainian opponent.
As far as Stakhovsky is concerned, he did have a chance to come back in the game during the second set tiebreak when Andy Roddick lost a couple of points in a row. Roddick at that stage of the game threw his racket down in anger; however he did well to pick himself up in order to knock down the 46th ranked Stakhovsky during the decisive set of the match.
In another match on Monday, the America’s Sam Querrey defeated his German opponent Philipp Petzschner in straight sets at the Cincinnati Masters. The final match score was 6-1, 6-4. The victory suggests that Querrey is back in action after facing two early exits in the Washington Classic along with the Rogers Cup in the recent past.
Sam who is the winner of U.S. Open Series back in 2009 defeated his German opponent in a total of two sets on Monday. The heavy-serving Californian fired a total of seven aces and grabbed 88% of his serve points. He managed to break Philipp’s serve on a total of four occasions where as he was broken by the German on just a single occasion.
Taylor Dent, a qualifier from the United States of America defeated Feliciano Lopez in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6-3, 6-2. Dent made use of his strong serve to knock down the Spaniard, firing a total of twelve aces and winning 72% of his first serves in the match.
Dent also recorded the quickest ever serve at the All England Club at 148 mph against Novak Djokovic.
Another important upset occurred at the Cincinnati Masters on Monday when the Swiss tennis ace Stanislas Wawrinka defeated 14th seed Nicolas Almagro in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-3, 6-3.
Some other seeds who won their matches on Monday include 10th seeded Spaniard David Ferrer as well as 13th seeded player from Austria, Jurgen Melzer.  
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray as well as Novak Djokovic will play their opening matches later this week at the Cincinnati Masters 2010.
