Cincinnati Reds' Jay Bruce all ready for Spring Training – MLB News
As Spring Training began at Goodyear, Arizona, the Cincinnati Reds seem resolved to get the maximum out of the opportunity they will get during the work-out sessions. The Reds right fielder Jay Bruce said on Monday, February 20, that after shedding a few
pounds, he feels a little better now.
"I changed my diet, but it's not that big of a deal. I feel a little better," Bruce said.
There is a lot that Bruce was supposed to put on order prior to the commencement of Spring Training and it came in the form of starting with his weight.
"I wanted to get [my weight] down a little bit. This is as light as I've been in a long, long time," Bruce said. "I still feel as strong as ever. Taking 10-15 pounds off your joints every single day will hopefully help over a full season. The main thing
is to stay healthy. That's my plan and my goal."
Jay Bruce had the opportunity to play in 157 games during the past season with his 585 at-bats whereby he scored 84 runs. He had 32 home-runs which was eighth in the National League and 97 RBIs that also stood at the eighth position.
The player maintained an average of .256 which might not be satisfying for the player of his calibre with three years’ experience to his credit. Nonetheless, he is looking forward to a much better season this year to help the Reds rise to the expectation
of the fans.
The Reds will have their pitchers and catchers this week for practice. The likes of Sean Marshall and Mat Latos in the pitching line-up now, the Reds can at least count upon a strong defence available to them in the form of the pitchers available at their
disposal.
The last time the Reds won any title was back in 2010 in the National League Central. Their performance in 2011 was not up to the mark; something that they do not want to repeat this year as they have a tremendous amount of extremely talented players to
change the course for the club.
