Cincinnati Reds' Joey Votto back in action after knee surgery – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds' manager Dusty Baker said on Monday, September 10, that All-Star first baseman Joey Votto is looking good in the line-up. A day after he played against the Houston Astros in the finale of three-game series, Votto seems all set to further empower the Reds' offence
Votto, who had undergone knee surgery on July 17 and another procedure in August due to some complication, ran hard and scored from first base in the fourth-inning triple by Jay Bruce.
"He's doing pretty good," Reds' manager Dusty Baker said on Monday. "Yesterday was a great indicator when he went from first to home. He was breathing pretty good, but he said he needed it. He needed to make that run. That was a good sign."
It is pertinent to mention that Joey Votto had returned on the plate on September 4 after a big gap in the aftermath of the surgery he underwent.
The knee surgery could have come with tremendous repercussions for the player. But in the 16 plate appearance since September 4, the first baseman has made it to base safely no less than 10 times.
That is a positive development. For Votto, who has become one of the highest paid players in baseball, with a 10-year, $225 million contract extension, keeping the Reds' offence strong is a task that he will be looking to fulfill.
The Reds, in the recent three-game series that they had against the Houston Astros, could not quite do what they might have planned. Given the Astros being at the bottom of the National League Central and Reds being at the top, the 2-1 defeat in the series for the Reds was a little unsettling.
But with all the chances to make it to the playoffs, Reds will be looking to a few of their players with the anticipation that they will play their role.
Votto has appeared in 91 games this season, having had a .342 average with 14 homers and 49 RBIs, maintaining an impressive .594 slugging percentage. It will be interesting to see how Joey Votto performs now especially after knee surgery.
