Cincinnati Reds' Joey Votto intends to return when 100 percent healthy – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds' All-Star first baseman Joey Votto does not intend to return until he is 100 percent healthy. Votto, whose return was expected this week, will now probably be back in the last week of August, or at the beginning of September.
Votto attributed this delay to his rigorous efforts to reach to 100 percent last week which had its repercussions, delaying the return due to some complications.
"I felt like I was close. I was probably pushing it trying to get out there," Votto said while talking about the attempt he made to get 100 percent. "I was probably being a little overzealous."
It is pertinent to mention that Votto underwent arthroscopic surgical procedure on Friday – weeks after the surgery he had on his left knee. What has caused trouble for Votto is the sliding.
Importantly, it was an attempt to slide when he had hurt himself, leading to the surgery. And, all the same, the same sliding attempt last week culminated with arthroscopic surgical procedure.
Joey Votto shed light on this aspect in detail and said, "I hurt it sliding. It wasn't a byproduct of any of the strength training stuff or any of the medical stuff or any of the things that I ran myself through -- baseball or physical therapy. I've slid a thousand times. Before I played, I was hoping to get a round of that stuff in. I happened to re-injure it doing that."
The 2010 National League Most Valuable Player and 2011 National League Gold Glove Winner Joey Votto’s return will augur well for the Reds, a team which sits atop the National League Central ranking.
Without him, the Reds have had a record of 19-8 ever since he underwent the surgery on July 16. It is worthwhile to mention that the offence has done all it could to alter its strategy and be ever more aggressive in his absence.
While the like of Brandon Phillips has been instrumental in keeping the offence afloat, Votto himself is an invaluable asset for the Cincinnati Reds, always prolifically contributing for the offence, making it one of the best in the National League.
