Cincinnati Reds' Joey Votto making quick recovery – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds' manager Dusty Baker revealed on Sunday, July 22, that All-Star Joey Votto is making a quick recovery. The player is also reported be walking under his own power at a time when he had only recently undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
The surgery was carried out on Tuesday and the possible return of the player was in no less than three weeks. But the revelation by the team manager must have re-energized the fans as they’re now genuinely looking forward to seeing the player on the field.
"Joey's looking pretty good," Baker said. "Today, he didn't have his crutches, which is a big plus. Doc said he's progressing well. That's great news for us and him."
The Reds might not be in any hurry, or inclined to take risk, to bring the All-Star sooner than the scheduled time. That is largely because the Reds have fared laudably well so far even without Votto in the lineup.
Nonetheless, this in no way obliterates the fact that he brings power to the offence and constitutes a powerful influence. Which means that the team would like to see him be an active part of the Reds at any given day.
Dusty Baker also dropped a hint that Votto may now return sooner than the previously announced schedule. But nonetheless, the Reds are all for being cautious because risk is a luxury that the team cannot have.
Baker does refer to the complications that Votto can encounter after the surgery and in the process of recovery.
"The hard thing is probably going to be running, and probably more than anything, I remember from my own operation, the hardest thing was sliding," Baker said. "You've been sliding on that one leg most of your life. Then all of a sudden, you're apprehensive about sliding, and that's how he hurt it.”
What needs to be seriously considered is the fact that without Votto, the team has won four of their six games. That is a fairly good record. However, the fact cannot be denied that Votto’s presence could actually make the record perfect for the Reds.
