Cincinnati Reds' Joey Votto’s performance up to the mark after knee surgery – MLB News
Five games after All-Star first baseman returned from knee surgery, the Cincinnati Reds' manager Dusty Baker said on Tuesday, September 11, that the player is in good shape, a step that is reassuring after his knee surgery.
Joey Votto has been impressive even after surgery. While a lot of the Cincinnati Reds fans and the team management, might have been worried about the prospect for the remainder of the season as far as his fitness is concerned, Votto seems to have stemmed all their concerns.
Playing a total of five games since his return, Joey Votto has maintained an impressive .333 average with seven walks to his credit with a .565 on-base percentage. Monday’s game wherein the Reds scored a decisive 4-3 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates showed the level of fitness Votto now has.
"Joey came in smiling today and said he feels great," said Reds' manager Dusty Baker. "It's a great step, because I didn't think it would be that way. It just shows what kind of shape he's in."
Votto, on the other hand, is equally happy and satisfied with his display so far. The accomplished first baseman, indeed, has reasons to be happy. "I didn't know what to expect," Votto said. "I usually try to play things by ear. I've felt pretty good so far. I've had my moments, but in general, pretty good."
As the regular season nears an end and the playoffs are right around the corner, Votto’s fitness means a lot for the Reds. He has been a central figure in bolstering the team’s offence.
Fitness and form of the each player has a significant role in determining the course of the near future for the Cincinnati Reds. The team, with the kind of performance they have exhibited so far, are favourites to make it to the World Series – if all goes well.
Joey Votto will, undeniably, figure prominently in the offence with his experience, effectiveness and power. It has to be seen if after knee surgery, Votto keeps the consistency which he has displayed in last five games that he appeared in.
