Cincinnati Reds' Johnny Cueto considers health important
The Cincinnati Reds might not be particularly pleased with the result of the game against the Colorado Rockies; they nevertheless seem satisfied with the fitness and performance of the starter Johnny Cueto.
The Cincinnati Reds were playing their game at Scottsdale, Arizona on Sunday, March 25, wherein the Rockies came down hard on them, beating the Reds by 7-3. Cueto was allowed to go for six innings’ spell.
The Reds starter allowed five runs – three of which were homers, in the loss that followed. Nonetheless, considering the unexpected injury of the player last year prior to the starting of the regular season, Cueto has not only remained fit but also putting efforts to remain effective.
"It's really important to be healthy,” said Cueto. "I worked hard in the Dominican. I worked hard when I got here, and I am continuing to work to make sure I'm healthy and start the season in good shape."
Dusty Baker did not seem much disappointed by the overall performance of the team. He nonetheless had a few things to say about the pitching spell of Cueto.
“They will be off tomorrow and we have one more game for them to go nine,” he said. “We outhit them but they outhit us out of the ballpark. Cueto looked good but he couldn’t get Helton out and he left a pitch out over the plate to Blake.”
The Reds have already slated Johnny Cueto as their Opening Day game starter scheduled against the Miami Marlins on April 5. While the unique mixture of defence and offence will have fundamentally key role to play in the Reds’ success, defence will have a decisive role to play.
Cueto, despite having missed the first month in 2011 due to the injury, had an impressive season. He went for 2.31 ERA in his 24 starts, winning 9 of the games and lost 5.
Nonetheless, there will be a renewed focus on the pitching as he has had 5.79 ERA this Spring Training in four of the starts, losing 3 of the games and winning 1. It remains to be seen how he adjusts things once the season begins.
