Cincinnati Reds' Mat Latos goes well against Los Angeles Angels – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds seemed to have started reaping the benefits of investment on Mat Latos. The Reds starter on Sunday had a good game against the Los Angeles Angels, giving up only four hits in his three-inning workout.
The game that ended with the Cincinnati Reds victory over the Los Angeles Angels by 5-4 brought about cheer in the camp. However, much as every player had his contribution, Mat Latos seemed to have put a good impression on manager Dusty Baker.
"He threw some outstanding curveballs today, especially for down here in Arizona. That's almost impossible to do," the team manager said with the end of pitcher’s spell in the game and victory against the Los Angeles Angels.
Mat Latos, on the other hand, has his focus fixed on what lies ahead. While vowing to play well in every game, Latos also had a word of praise for the team and the team-mates.
"I've just got to keep working, work harder the next day," Latos said. "Today was today and we'll work on tomorrow. I feel real comfortable with everybody. Everybody's been real nice and helpful and everything."
Cincinnati Reds had signed the pitcher last year for five years. Previously representing the San Diego Padres, Latos arrival in the Reds was then seen as an essentially positive development with Sunday’s performance, has become even more positive.
The starting pitcher has a career ERA of 3.37 in 72 games that he has played so far. With 72 starts, he has 27 wins to his credit and a WHIP of 1.15 with 413 strike-outs.
Similarly, in the 31 starts that he had the past season, he had nine wins to his credit with 3.47 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 185 strike-outs to his credit. Having made his debut in 2009 against the Colorado Rockies, the player has not looked back since then.
It now has to be seen how Mat Latos maintains his performance in the regular season as well where the club will be fairly dependent on a strong start by this player; adding to the strength for the Reds’ defence.
