Cincinnati Reds' Ryan Hanigan happy with his performance – MLB News
Cincinnati Reds' catcher Ryan Hanigan on Monday, August 27, expressed his pleasure with the consistent performance he has maintained in this season so far. The player who has thrown out 15 of the last 30 base-runners is coming across as an invaluable asset for the Reds, solidifying their defence further.
The Reds which are occupying the first spot in the National League Central Division has had a tremendous combination of defence and offence, making them a tough contender. Hanigan’s role, undeniably, has remained of tremendous significance all this while.
"I feel like I'm pretty good at that -- throwing guys out when I have a chance," Hanigan said. "You have to work with the pitchers. It starts with them. They have to give me a chance. If I feel like I have a little chance of a window, I feel like it's on me to make a throw. Every out is huge. Cutting down innings with outs is important. It helps our pitcher and our defense get off the field."
With his 3.08 catchers’ ERA, for now Hangian is the best in the Majors, arousing envy and sense of competition in other catchers. He is quite happy with it, for the reason completely known as his individual performance and that of the team are something to take pride in.
If his last season’s performance is to be compared with the ongoing one, he has indeed come a long way to assert his ascendancy. Last season saw him having a 28 percent throw out wherein he had successfully executed 13 of 46.
But this year, 15 out of 30 is a testament to his ever improving performance. Faring better, he is quite happy with it.
He said, “It's always a good feeling when you can throw a guy out. It's an exciting play I'm sure for the fans. It's something I've always enjoyed and work at.”
As things go well for the catcher and the team as a whole, it will be interesting to see if the Reds make it easily into the playoffs and go beyond that with the strong line-up they have.
