Cincinnati Reds' Scott Rolen weighs options on the future moves
The Cincinnati Reds' general manager Walt Jocketty on Monday, November 19, spoke of what the club had in its mind regarding filling the third base. It is Todd Frazier who is to replace the veteran Scott Rolen.
Rolen had a somewhat tumultuous season this year, ending up playing a total of 92 games out of 162 regular season fixtures. Plagued by injuries, especially with a strain in his left shoulder and periodic back spasms, he was replaced by rookie Todd Frazier.
Even though Rolen felt better – asserting, "I've been healthy. My shoulder has been feeling good and I've been able to respond. As long as I can stay healthy and stay strong, I'll run out on the field every day." He did take his time to regain the effectiveness and power he famously has had.
Frazier not only proved his instrumentality and efficacy as a batter but also a skilful infielder. At a time when there were talks of Scott Rolen undecided about continuing his career or announce retirement, Frazier essentially ensured that the latter would be a good replacement if and when needed.
Having made his debut back in 1996, becoming NL Rookie of the Year in 1997, the player did not look back. Rolen went on to hold an impressive .281 batting average in his 2038 appearances. This was marked by with consistency as he smashed 316 homers and had 1287 RBIs.
Similarly, the veteran player did not disappoint his fans this year either even if he could make 92 appearances.
Coming in Cincinnati Reds back in 2009 after being  traded, he also won a Gold Glove as the Reds' third baseman. That move by Reds to acquire him was a pretty special moment for him.
The sport, all the way, is special for him. As to whether he stays or retires is a decision that is awaited. But Rolen will remain indebted to baseball, and will continue loving it.
"It's a lifetime experience, something you've looked forward to your whole life. You're not sure if you want it to be over with, or if you want it to last forever."
It will be interesting to see how well the Reds can improve their depth before the start of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
