Cincinnati Reds' manager hopeful about Aroldis Chapman’s future prospect
The Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker on Monday, June 11, dismissed the suggestions that the Reds reliever Aroldis Chapman might have lost his magical touch. The star reliever who is having a virtual, if not absolute mastery over the rivals, in the National
League has had difficulty maintaining the performance he had been demonstrating since the start of this season.
However, the coming of the team manager in his defence testifies to the significance Chapman's team attaches to him, and the power he brings with himself. The Reds manager also expressed his confidence and hope that Chapman shall soon revert to being ‘great’,
something eagerly awaited.
"Sometimes it happens. I don't care how good you are," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "He spoiled us by being so good. He's going to return to being great real soon."
What went to the advantage of this young and precocious talent was the fact that he had a tremendously strong presence on the mound since the commencement of the season. Up until Thursday when his performance seemingly started deteriorating, he had tossed
29 scoreless innings.
That was a major league best coupled with 24 appearances allowing no earned run. Such a performance was being seen as the culmination of what this promising player was expected to bring when the Reds began their campaign for strong show in this season.
Along with the manager, the team’s catcher, Devin Mesoraco, also had his observation and defence to share.
"He's human. He's not a robot out there, just striking everybody out," Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco said. "He's going to go through good times and bad times, just like everybody else. For him, the key is just getting ahead and throwing good quality strikes
and then going from there. From here on out, he can just get strike one."
Nevertheless, the supposedly unsatisfying and a somewhat menacingly poor performance of Chapman in last two games against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers will apparently be overcome if the recent history is anything to go by. How he achieves that
is something that the fans will see with bated breath.
