Cincinnati Reds’ Dusty Baker achieves another milestone with 3,000th game of his career – MLB News
Cincinnati Reds' manager Dusty Baker achieved another milestone on Tuesday, September 18, by managing 3,000th game of his career. The Reds that played the Cubs on Tuesday ended with the Reds 3-1, adding more to the manager’s glory and a testimony to his tremendous success.
This was the 796th game for him to serve as manager for the Cincinnati Reds. Prior to it, he had discharged managerial responsibility for the San Francisco Giants in 1,556 games and 648 games for the Chicago Cubs.
It was a proud and joyous moment for the experienced and one of the most eminent names of baseball. He vows to continue it. "I still enjoy what I am doing," Baker said. "I don't know if I've got 3,000 more, of course. I'll keep doing it until I stop enjoying it."
Baker is now the second in all-time wins among the active managers after Jim Leyland of the Detroit Tigers. Currently, Baker has a 1,572–1,426 record in his career with one tie while he was managing the San Francisco Giants, playing against the Atlanta Braves in August 15, 2002.
What fills him with happiness is the fact that under his aegis, the respective teams have won more games than they have lost. That is what he alludes to while speaking on the matter.
"I'm a daily person. Everybody wants to achieve things," Baker said. "I'm just glad that out of the 3,000 games, I've won more than lost. I've still got quite a few games left in me."
This comes at a very crucial time for Dusty Baker whose team seems all set to make its way into the playoffs. Currently occupying the top spot in the National League Central, the Reds have performed extraordinarily well this season.
Given the consistency they have maintained and overcame virtually every rival throughout this season, it will be interesting to see if they maintain it in the playoffs as well. If the Reds manage to go beyond that, it will be a worthy tribute and testament to the greatness of Dusty Baker, serving the Reds for years now.
