Cincinnati Reds’ Dusty Baker has no inclination for critique on the lineup – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds’ manager Dusty Baker on Friday, March 2, urged the fans and critics alike not to come up with any critique on the lineup at this point. Baker’s statement pertained to the Cactus League lineup that will have their first game on Saturday.
There are suggestions and speculations that the Reds have plans to form a team for the Cactus League that will also play the Opening Day game. It is inevitable then that a fair amount of critique may come the Reds’ way.
That is what does not particularly flatter the Reds’ manager.
"I urge you -- don't read into stuff," Baker said on Friday. "It's a possibility. You have to start somewhere. I urge everybody, please don't critique my lineup. I'm going to get enough of that soon."
Considering the fact that the Reds’ fans are emotionally attached to the team, the critique, however, may sometimes become unsupportable. Dusty Baker has the inclination to make a team that is organisationally cohesive more than being admirably appealable
or acceptable to the fans.
Dusty Baker, thus, lays strong emphasis on the point that he does what he thinks is right for the team.
"I don't care," Baker said. "There's that saying that everybody can tell you how to do it, but very few have ever done it. I'm doing what I think is right every day. There's a good chance that with my background and experience that I have a better idea than
most."
Baker is, beyond any shadow of doubt, right in his assertion. The years of expertise that he shoulders enables and authorises him to have the final say on the selection of the team. That his choice may be critiqued, but his decisions have more often than
not, produced desirable results for the team as a whole.
Nonetheless, given the lineup order, there is understandably no way to stop the flow of criticism. Be that as it may, at the end, it is the ability and competence of the final nine that determines the result of the game against rival teams during the upcoming
2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
