Cincinnati Reds’ Dusty Baker wins nomination for NL Manager of the Year Award – MLB News

Cincinnati Reds' manager Dusty Baker has won the nomination for the National League Manager of the Year Award, whose result will be announced on November 15. Among the Top 3 nominees for the award are San Francisco Giants' Bruce Bochy and the Washington Nationals’ Davey Johnson.
Dusty Baker led the team to the National League Division Series, having a wonderful record of 97-65 this year. It is a massive improvement from how the team fared in 2011, losing 83 games and winning 79. It was in the NLDS that they were ousted by the Giants.
Dusty Baker has had a favourable view of the team; seeing it as a side capable of achieving extraordinary feats.
He said, "This is the youngest team I've had, which is what I've been yearning for really for years now. The younger the team, sometimes the more mistakes, but the more open and willing they are to be taught how to play. It seems like the older players are set in their ways."
But probably to the chagrin of the club, none of its players could make their names in National League Most Valuable Player Award. Nonetheless, Todd Frazier is one of the names for the NL Rookie of the Year Award.
On the other hand, as far as the nominees for Manager of Year Award is concerned, all of them had a fairly successful season, with their teams making it to the post-season. However, Bochy comes as a strong nominee compared to two other managers; for his team had an impressive record of winning 94 games in the regular season and eventually the World Series.
It has been under his aegis that the San Francisco Giants won the 2010 World Series and went on to win 2012 World Series by beating the Detroit Tigers.
The Reds, nonetheless, seemed all prepared to go beyond the National League Division Series, a dream which did not eventually materialise.
However, with Dusty Baker there – after his contract was extended by the Reds as the recognition of his meritorious performance, the Reds may attain bigger glories in the years to come.
