Cincinnati Reds Joey Votto feels improved – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds first baseman, and All-Star, Joey Votto has said he feels tremendously improved after the recovery and rehab. The player missed 48 games this past season due to the knee injury.
It was during the regular season that knee injury confined him to the disabled list, requiring two surgeries. And when Votto returned, it was not as strong a show as it was prior to the surgery.
The player had zero RBIs in the National League Division Series played against the San Francisco Giants in 18-bats of the five games. Joey Votto for the first time admitted that he was upset by how the season ended.
"I was really upset from how the season ended," Votto said. "I was certainly upset from getting injured and not being able to play to my potential and have an immediate impact at certain times during games. Time off has done me good and a chance to strengthen,
rehab and recover has helped quite a bit also."
But he did not yield to pessimism and hopelessness. Instead, Votto is bracing himself for the offseason hitting, and all set to play in the Spring Training. The All-Star confidently asserts he is regaining his strength.
"Now I'm to the point where I can sit on the back of my heels, do a full squat. I can do all kinds of crouching. My strength is not at 100 percent yet, but it's getting there. I can run at full speed, do jumping and do a lot of strength work. As far as improving,
it's been a great deal."
In 2012, he played a total of 11 games, having had 374 at-bats, maintaining an impressive .337 batting average. The post surgery games might not have been as productive and prolific, he maintained an overall slugging percentage of .567 during the season.
Also, the player, who signed a 10-year $225 million contract extension with the club on April 02, 2012, has the longest active deal in baseball. His .316 batting average in 728 games speaks volume for the consistency he has maintained throughout these years
in Major League Baseball.
