Cincinnati Reds’ Johnny Cueto positive about the 2012 season – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds’ starter Johnny Cueto on Monday, March 5, struck a positive note on his appearance against the Cleveland Indians. The Opening Day starter is genuinely looking forward to unleashing his lethal pitching once the next season starts.
However, the 12-7 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the Cactus League has established evidence of what the player is capable of doing on any given day. His game against the Indians saw him give up two hits and allow a run.
"Everything was low," Cueto said. "I felt really well. I was really relaxed. I was looking to throw my pitches low and keep the ball down."
The past season will indeed be a promising one if he did not miss the games due largely to the injuries that hindered the player to improve his ERA. The player had nine wins to his credit in the 24 games that he played with an impressive ERA of 2.31.
He was certainly capable of doing far better than that had the irritation in the biceps and triceps not afflicted the player. Add to it the fact that he had a right lat muscle strain, resulting in missing some more games during the season.
This year, however, has to be different for the starter. That is what he is precisely trying to achieve now. The game against the Cleveland Indians testified he was all prepared for bigger challenges.
"I am doing extra work, a little more than I am supposed to do," he said.
With Johnny Cueto, there were reports of Ryan Madson confident about his early return in the team as he has a mild irritation in his elbow. There were fears initially that he might miss a few big games in the beginning of the regular season.
"I'm playing catch [Tuesday]," Madson said. "It's just a normal Spring Training kickback. It's happened to me the past couple of years."
With both Johnny Cueto and Ryan Madson feeling confident about their level of fitness, it can be safe to assume that the Reds are equipped and organised to dismantle any offence. The team will be looking to their talented pitching rotation for some success
in the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
