The strained right forearm might have exceedingly troubled the Cincinnati Reds’ Logan Ondrusek, but the team manager stated on Friday, March 9, that the club will reduce his appearances this season so as to allow him to adjust.
Logan Ondrusek had a wonderfully good season the past year for few months unless the strained right forearm started creating problem for him. Initially, it affected the performance of the reliever and then culminated with him being reduced to the disabled
list.
However, as the new season approaches fast, there are strategies that the club intends to put in place to accommodate the player.
"We'd hopefully like to limit the number of appearances he has," Reds’ manager Dusty Baker said Friday. "Sometimes, it can't be helped. Ondrusek did well. When he was strong, he was really good. There were periods when we had to use him."
As to where he will be given a chance once he starts playing is a question that he has an answer to. This year he is most likely to be tried in the seventh inning; a position that he thinks he will earn as he will try for it harder.
"I still view it as I have to earn my spot and nothing will be given to me," Ondrusek said. "I'm still preparing the same way I did the first two years. Come in, get people out and try to make the team."
Logan Ondrusek could only appear in 66 games last year with an ERA of 3.23. He won five of the games, losing three.
All the same, he might have retained his fitness back then but he did not get a lot of opportunities to play. That was understandable given the format of Major League Baseball. However, keeping the past behind will indeed help the player focus on the present
and future.
Logan Ondrusek has got a chance to show his efficacy as a player with a crucial role in the team’s strength and force. It is only with the passage of time that the fans will be able to see if Logan Ondrusek really gets the opportunity to prove his instrumentality.
