Cincinnati Reds’ Mat Latos ready to take the challenge head on – MLB News
The new Cincinnati Reds’ pitcher Mat Latos commented on Thursday, January 26, that he will continue to pitch to the best of his strengths in the upcoming regular season. Expressing his excitement with the task ahead, his induction in the Reds, he expressed
will take the challenge head on.
"My first couple of years in the big leagues, it was me pitching to my strengths and pitching to hitters' weaknesses. That's not going to change," Latos said. "I'm excited about the ballpark. It being a hitters' ballpark, and Petco being a pitchers' ballpark,
they said it's going to be a big change. It's a challenge. I'll take this challenge head on. I look forward to pitching in this ballpark."
Mat Latos came up with the statement on Thursday when he visited the Great American Ball Park. His arrival here was to formally be part of the team caravan which had recently commenced.
Latos’ arrival in the Cincinnati Reds is being interpreted as a good omen for the team’s pitching line-up. After all, it was only in December that the Reds traded three of their players, Yasmani Grandal, reliever Brad Boxberger and Edinson Volquez, to acquire
Latos from the San Diego Padres.
Mat also took his time to speak about the upcoming Spring Training session. Scheduled for February, it will be quite a sight to see the talented pitcher starting the game for the Cincinnati Reds.
"I don't want to walk into Spring Training and feel like the odd man out, with weird looks when everybody first gets there," Latos said.
Latos will interestingly be in line with the ace pitcher Johnny Cueto. Mat will now be the Number two starter for the team; effectively sending signals around the baseball world that he is ready to dominate from the mound.
Thursday’s visit to the Great American Ball Park also coincides with his meeting the Cincinnati Reds’ CEO Bob Castellini and general manager Walt Jocketty. With a 3.37 career ERA, Latos has appeared in 72 games, having had 27 wins to his credit with a 1.15
WHIP. The pitcher was ninth in NL BAA ranking with .233.
