Cincinnati Reds’ Mike Leake will start in the Cactus League – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds announced on Thursday, March 1, that Mike Leake will make the start in the Cactus League scheduled on Saturday. The announcement came at a time when a lot of fans were hedging their bets on Bronson Arroyo to start the game against the
Cleveland Indians.
The Reds had already made their decision, but preferred to keep a discreet silence on it. With the element of surprise attached to it, the Reds’ fans will now be keeping their fingers crossed for a scintillating show on Saturday.
"Yeah, but I'll give it to you later," Baker said. "Something could happen between now and then. You don't want to go too far."
Arroyo, on the other hand, will have his first ever start this year on Wednesday. As to who stands as the unchallenged Number one for the Cincinnati Reds, it is indeed the accomplished Johnny Cueto.
As for Mike Leake, he has a career ERA of 4.03 in 53 games that he has played, making a start in 48 of them. Similarly, he has won 20 of those games, losing 13 with 209 strike-outs to his credit after making his debut back in 2010.
The past season saw the starting pitcher play 29 games, having an ERA of 3.86 after winning 12 games and losing nine with a 1.17 WHIP.
Be that as it may, the Cincinnati Reds’ outfielder Ryan Ludwick welcomed the news that shows that there will be additional two teams in the postseason this year, bringing a club each from the American and National League.
"It gives another team the opportunity to get in," Reds’ outfielder Ryan Ludwick said. "It's a gruelling season -- 162 games. I think it's the most gruelling schedule in all of sports. Giving that extra team the opportunity to take it a step farther, I think
it's a great idea."
With so many things happening at the same time, it will be of immense interest to see how the Reds manage to remain afloat in the regular season. The growing competition will indeed determine which team is resilient enough to gain success.
