Cincinnati Reds’ Nick Masset goes for another pitching session – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds' reliever Nick Masset tossed more pitches on Wednesday, June 27, as he prepares himself to formally commence playing. The reliever who has not been able to pitch even once in the season, due to a right shoulder injury, is struggling to stage a comeback.
Much as he is desperately needed for the bullpen, there are some encouraging signs lately. Only on Monday did Masset throw 40 pitches. Just when the prevailing thought was that he might not be able to play any game this season, latest developments refute those perceptions.
As to how he felt after the throwing session on Monday, Masset acknowledged he felt a bit of soreness. However, the reliever does not seem deterred by this soreness as he is determined to set in motion the force which seemed missing since the start of the season.
"It felt good all the way through. The next day, I had a little soreness," Masset said before heading to the bullpen Wednesday. "When you go through something like this, you have the spot that's hurt, but as you come back and start throwing, there are certain things that are going to pop up in your shoulder -- just tightness.”
Like said earlier, the player does not want to be overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problem. He is willing to take it on with resolute determination.
Masset added, “You're training your arm to throw all over again. I've had some discomfort in certain areas, but that's kind of the process of coming back and kick-starting the shoulder again. Overall, it's doing very good."
Nick Masset had inspired much hope prior to the commencement of the season. However, as luck would have it, the player could not quite make his way into the team when the season kicked off, causing huge disappointment not only for himself but for the team.
The player has a career ERA of 3.78 in the 308 games that he has played, winning 16 and saving 4 games with a total of 285 strike-outs. As to whether he regains his form and fitness is something that cannot be said with certitude at this stage.
