Cincinnati Reds Nick Masset preparing for return – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds reliever Nick Masset is bracing himself for much-awaited return to the club’s bullpen. He missed the 2012 season due to the right shoulder injury which eventually required a surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule.
Posting 3.78 ERA in 308 career games, Masset has 16-14 record, and four saves to his record.
Speaking on Friday, December 07, the reliever said the ongoing rehab is coming along great. As for the return, Masset is not exhibiting any kind of unnecessary haste at this point in time.
"It's been coming along great," Masset said Friday during Redsfest. "My strength has been coming along really good. I really don't know what to expect because it's one of those things I haven't been through."
Masset, however, does hope he will make it by the end of March if he starts the throwing program at the start of next year.
"I'm going to be rehabbing all the way through while I'm throwing," Masset said. "And when I'm throwing, I'm sure it's not going to feel great at the beginning. You're throwing with a new arm, so to speak. They'll probably want to take it slow with me. I know it's a three-month throwing program. So if I start at the beginning of the year, that would put me to the end of March.”
The Reds are quite carefully observing the developments on this front. The rehab process of utmost importance for the team. Masset, with the years of experience that he has, will be an invaluable asset for the Reds.
Their bullpen record remained one of the best in the National League this past season. With the likes of Jonathan Broxton, J. J. Hoover, and Aroldis Chapman being there, Masset’s arrival will diversify the Reds lineup when it comes to the bullpen.
