Cincinnati Reds: Regular season results – MLB April 2011
Cincinnati Reds made a great start to their regular season campaign. Team Manager Dusty Baker got the best out of his players with his smart moves as Cincinnati won five straight games to earn a sensational 5-0 win-loss record. In a three match series against
Milwaukee Brewers, the Reds looked in stunning form as they emerged victorious in each contest. In game one, the Reds held their nerves to clinch a narrow 7-6 win.
Ramon Hernandez was absolutely brilliant with the bat as he hit a two-out three run homer in the tie-breaking innings and the Reds battled back to secure a 7-6 victory over the Brewers.
"I've played 12 years, and this is the most amazing Opening Day," said Hernandez, who ended it with his fourth hit. "To get that type of win is great, and to do it on a day like today gets people even more excited. It's amazing."
"I've never seen an Opening Day like that," said Dusty Baker, who won his first opener in four years as the Reds' manager. "I've seen a guy hit a homer to start the game, but I've never seen the first two guys hit homers.
In game two, the Reds made most of the available opportunities to take a decisive 2-0 lead in the series. Dominating their opponents in all departments of the game, the Reds hammered the Brewers 12-3 in third and final match to earn their first series sweep
of the season.
The Reds piled up 19 hits during the contest to match their best from last year. Ryan Hanigan hit two out of four homers on four hits.
In a three match series against Houston Astros, the Reds got off to a flying start. Executing their game plan to perfection, the pitchers threw with great control to restrict the opposition team to very small total. Chris Heisey drove in three runs and the
Reds stayed patient to win the opening game 8-2.
The Reds continued their impressive form in game two of the series as well and they defeated the Astros 12-4 to earn their second straight series win of the season. However, the Reds were unable to deliver the goods in third and final game due to loss in
concentration and Astros battled back 2-3 to salvage some pride.
However, following their series against Houston Astros, the Reds failed to play their A-game and they suffered defeats one after another. Losing series to Pittsburgh Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks and St. Louis Cardinals, the Reds ended the month of April
on a pretty poor note. Dusty Baker and his men aimed to give better results in their following fixtures.
