Cincinnati Reds’ Ryan Madson gets minor elbow injury – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds might not have been ready for a big shock. However, reports surfaced on Sunday, March 4, suggesting that the new closer Ryan Madson is nursing an elbow injury. Although the injury might well be minor in nature, it has rendered Madson
unable to appear in the two games that the Cincinnati Reds have played in the Cactus League.
Reds’ manager came forward with an explanation, calling the injury a little irritation in the closer’s arms. The Reds are so far faring well in the Cactus League with another 8-6 win over the Cleveland Indians.
"He has a little irritation in his arm," Reds’ manager Dusty Baker said. "The doctor looked at him today. Hopefully, he will be all right in the next couple of days."
For now, the Reds do not have much to worry as the regular season is a month away. However, the sooner the closer gets his fitness back, the better it is for the club. The Reds have only recently signed Madson for a one year deal worth $8.5 million.
Apart from the injury that has plagued the closer, Dusty Baker spoke about Neftali Soto. The player has so far exhibited great talent and power, playing in Double-A Carolina, hitting no less than 76 RBIs and 30 homers.
"That's one reason why you can trade an Alonso when you have [Soto] coming up," Reds’ manager Dusty Baker said. "The guy has tremendous power and he's getting better. He works hard. He's an outstanding first baseman. I see him in the weight room every day.
He's come a long way in a short period of time."
On Saturday’s game that the Reds had against the Indians, Soto had a home-run to his credit. That served as a good evidence of why the team has reposed his confidence in play.
In the days to come, coupled with the fitness of Ryan Madson which is crucial, the induction of players like Soto will lend a credible power to the team, enabling them to compete against their rivals. The team will be hoping that Madson quickly recovers
from his elbow injury as the regular season is coming close.
