Cincinnati Reds’ Sean Marshall to get contract extension – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds are considering a contract extension for Sean Marshall, said a report on Sunday, February 26. The left-hand reliever is an invaluable asset and a source of strength for the Reds’ bullpen.
While there has been sweeping changes coming the Reds way in the recent past as far as their 40-man roster is concerned, Marshal was one great addition in the club. He was traded by the Reds from the Chicago Cubs.
The Reds traded him in the past year for Dave Sappelt, the pitcher Travis Wood and Ronald Torreyes who was one of the Minor League infielders for the club back then. The decision, so it seems, was pretty far-sighted.
Now that the reliever is in the final year of the contract he had, it is about time for the Reds to move and make a huge and rewarding long-term investment. The 29-year-old player has shown the consistency and dependability that makes him all the more important
for the Reds now.
"We are talking to him," Reds’ general manager Walt Jocketty said on Sunday. "It could be done soon. When we traded for him, it was also looking to sign him for the long term."
The past season, Marshall remained third in the National League HLD which numbered 34. He had five saves, winning a total of six games and losing as many in the 75.2 innings that he pitched with 2.26 ERA throughout the season.
The player’s career average is 3.96 in the 292 games that he has played. He has 52 starts as well, throwing a total of 530 innings, winning 32 games.
This is an ideal time for the player to show what he can achieve in any capacity as the pitcher for the Reds. Although he is the setup man for the club in the days to come, he will be all ready to pitch as a closer given the consistency he has. It will be
a matter of time before the fans see some improvement in the ballclub to go against the rival hitters.
