Cincinnati Reds a game away to clinch the National League Central title – MLB News
Even though the Cincinnati Reds could not hold their ground on Friday, September 21 and lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1, the team is all set to clinch the National League Central title. That will require one more win which they will try to attain in Saturday’s game.
Reds' reliever Sean Marshal struck a positive a note about the second game of the series, saying he felt the club is in the right spot to win the title. The Reds so far have the numbers on their side and Friday’s win did not deal a big blow to them given the Chicago Cubs’ win over the St. Louis Cardinals, placing the Reds in a unique position.
"I feel like we're in a good spot," Reds' reliever Sean Marshall said as the team lost in the 10th inning. "We're 11 games up ... and that's a good spot to be for us. It would have been nice if we had pulled off the win, but we've got another game tomorrow and another chance to clinch the division tomorrow. We'll just come back and hopefully clinch it tomorrow."
Reds need to wait for Saturday’s game to do what the club and the fans were expecting to be done on Friday. From the best of players at their disposal, the Reds can comfortably do that. However, the Dodgers do not want to be underestimated.
Centre fielder of the club, Matt Kemp – who put in a tremendous performance to help the Dodgers win on Friday, said the team has to remain consistent to win games.
"We just have to be consistent and do the little things to win some games," said Dodgers' Kemp whose instrumentality on Friday will be long remembered. "We just have to keep grinding."
The Reds will definitely like to see their victory in Saturday’s game as they have put extraordinary effort and played remarkably well to make it where they stand today. Saturday’s game shall see Kyle Lohse as starter for the Reds, a pitcher who has recently struggled, but will try his best to facilitate the Reds’ win.
