Cincinnati Reds activate centre fielder Drew Stubbs – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds on Monday, June 25, announced they have activated centre fielder Drew Stubbs after almost 20 days of his stint on the disabled list. Stubbs had fallen victim to strained left oblique muscle, rendering him unable to appear on the field.
The centre fielder’s absence from the team has had its downside if the team’s last few days’ performance is to be assessed. Nonetheless, Stubbs comes in the team after three-game Minor League rehab assignment that he had.
Stubbs’ performance in the rehab assignment might not have been up to the mark. But it does not – in any way, seem unsatisfactory either. The player had 1-for-10, having had one RBI and two strike-outs with one walk to his credit as he played his games with Class A Dayton.
While his re-arrival augurs well for the Cincinnati Reds, the team manager Dusty Baker appreciated the performance of the player who replaced him during his injury. Also, Baker said Stubbs will be fresher now to make his start.
"I'm glad to have him back," Reds' manager Dusty Baker said. "The guys that played in his place did a great job, too, while they were playing. Hopefully, he can come back and not miss a beat and actually be better. He has fresh legs, he said his legs were feeling great.”
Baker went so far as to say to that Stubbs is No.1 speed man for the Reds. What is ultimately one of the great advantages and characteristics of this player is his speed, something that Dusty Baker is all praise for.
“Hopefully, he can give us a spark and a jolt, too. He's our No. 1 speed man. That's the one thing that without him in the lineup you're lacking: speed. I love speed. There's no substitution for it."
Stubbs’ big test after his recuperation will, without any shadow of doubt, be his first game against the Milwaukee Brewer. The Reds will enter into a three-game series against the Brewers with the two sides straining to have a lead in the division before the All-Star break coming in a couple of weeks.
