Cincinnati Reds almost done with roster – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds came up with another announcement on Wednesday, January 25, that they have signed Willie Harris, adding more to the infield depth. He will have his place booked in the Minor League, though.
The deal which was reportedly reached early this week came up late for an announcement. The non-roster player can be called anytime to replace any player in the Major League, thanks largely to his good performance last year.
Harris has the experience of representing team like the Chicago White Sox, Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets and the Washington Nationals. With a worthwhile experience, the player has an average of .240 throughout his career.
Harris who will make up to $1 million has performed well lately. The last season, for example, saw the player register a base-percentage of .351 with a .246 batting average in more than 120 games that he appeared.
Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Reds’ general manager stated that the roster for the team has almost been completed. What the club is now looking for is the outfield depth and the starting pitching.
"The only other things I might look for is for starting pitching and outfield depth on the Major League club," Jocketty said. "In case of an injury, we'd have somebody. Other than that, we're pretty much done."
Roy Oswalt is one of the names that the Cincinnati Reds reportedly considered for pitching. While this in essence seems like speculation, Jocketty did talk frankly whether or not it was practically possible for the team to get him signed at this juncture.
"They called us. I still don't know how we can do it, quite frankly," Jocketty said. "We haven't had any dialogue. I told them it would be hard financially to put a deal together and left it at that."
From the recent inductions, it is clear now that the Cincinnati Reds want a stronger side this time round to take on the rival teams. Therefore, with such a competitive side, the National League will have thoroughly exciting games to offer for the fans and
teams alike.
