Cincinnati Reds beat St. Louis Cardinals 13-4 – MLB Update
Cincinnati Reds defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 13-4 in the first game their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, April 09 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis Missouri in 2013 Major League Baseball season.
The Reds entire batting and pitching lineup played beautifully and showed great offensive plays during the entire game.
Starter Mat Latos played beautifully and allowed only four runs in six innings’ spell. He received one earned run and struck out five Cardinals batters.
Centre fielder Shin-Soo Choo also played very well for the Reds as he scored two runs and three RBIs on five at bats.
"I almost died and my teammates gave me another life, I really appreciate my teammates, coming over to me and saying everybody makes mistakes. I missed two fly balls and in my mind I had to do something to help the team," centre fielder Shin-Soo Choo said later in the game regarding his brilliant outing against the Cardinals.
On the other hand, the Cardinals were poor in the field. They were tired from their last series as they failed to impress against the Reds.
Cardinals’ pitchers played poorly during the entire game especially their starter Jaime Garcia were hammered with huge hits. He allowed three runs and six hits along with a homer on 2.92 ERA. Closer Mitchell Boggs was also hit hard with seven runs and two hits on his blistering high 14.54 ERA.
“I think this is the worst outing of my career, I guess without saying there's a lot of season left and I expect to be a player with a lot of good ones," said Boggs, who has one save in two chances along with a bloated 14.54 ERA.
Later Baker said, “You get a little gun-shy out there, it happens, It's a new position, a new league, a new park. Those balls went 400 feet.”
The only Cardinals’ hitter left fielder Matt Holiday did a good job with bat as he scored two runs on his three at bats. No other hitter from the Cardinals’ roster was able to play offensive game against the Reds entire pitching lineup.
