Cincinnati Reds bolster offence after signing Jack Hannahan – MLB News
Cincinnati Reds on Thursday, Dec. 14, announced the two-year contract with Jack Hannahan. The left-handed veteran infielder is another addition to the roster after the Reds re-signed Ryan Ludwick, traded Shin-Soo Choo and infielder Jason Donald from the
Cleveland Indians.
A quick look at the players constituting the part of Reds’ offence reveals the strength of the side as a whole. Effective, efficient and potent, the club has got the right combination at the disposal; emerging as an intimidating contender offensively in
the upcoming season.
While all the aforementioned players have been consistent lately, Hannahan will be another left-handed bat off the bench for the Reds. This was conspicuously missing the last season. However, things stand altered now.
After surprisingly uneventful Winter Meetings wherein the Reds did not seem to have big negotiations and transactions to make, not at least officially, the recent three moves speak volume for the meticulous approach that the club famously has.
Batting .247 with 12 home runs and 69 RBIs in the last two seasons, Hannahan had spent them with the Cleveland Indians. Coming to the Reds is a sequence of moving to right place; and in the equally good position.
"I've always felt like the National League is a perfect fit for a guy like me who can play a bunch of different positions, a left-handed hitter coming off the bench," said Hannahan. "I'm excited to turn that page from the American League to the National
League."
Call it sheer coincidence, he will have his former teammate Shin-Soo Choo with himself here in the Reds as well.
"Choo's fast and his first couple of steps are good," said Hannahan. "Choo has always been up for anything and has always been a team guy. He's going to do what's best for the team, and I think he's going to be fine roaming around in center field."
It was the back injury that limited the Hannahan this past season wherein he hit .244 in 105 games. The 32-year-old player has played a total of 505 Major League games – providing him enough experience to capitalize on in the coming years.
