Cincinnati Reds contesting for two BWAA Awards – MLB News
Cincinnati Reds' fans are anxiously waiting for the results of Baseball Writers’ Association of America Awards wherein the club has won nominations for National League Rookie of the Year, and Manager of the Year Award.
Both awards will be announced on Monday and Tuesday – broadcast live on MLB Network. For the Rookie of the Year, it is Todd Frazier who is among the Top 3 nominees and Dusty Baker will see the result of Manager of the Year Award.
When Baseball Writers’ Association of America released the top finishers in voting for the annual awards in advance last week, it stunned many. It was not only fascinating but also quite exhilarating for the increasingly eager fans of Major League Baseball.
However, much as it inspires excitement, the Reds’ hope they will win one of the two honours. For Dusty Baker, it was an achievement that his won the National League Central title, making it to the post-season by remaining on top of the Division.
On the other, Todd Frazier was instrumental in bolstering the team offensively and defensively just when things did not look promising for the club given the fitness issues of the respective players.
That the Reds failed to have any of their names in the Top 3 nominations for Cy Young and MVP will add to the team’s desire to earn an award in any of the former two final nominations.
Among the Cy Young, it was Johnny Cueto or Aroldis Chapman who were expected to make it to the lists. But that that did not materialise as both the pitchers faced fitness problems. Chapman was shut down for few games due to shoulder fatigue and Cueto was out of line-up with problems in the back in National League Division Series.
As for the awards wherein the Reds will compete, it is Todd Frazier who will be a favourite to net the award.
But all that will be clear in the coming two days when the final results of the voting will be announced. For Baker, the team’s making it into playoffs and holding one of the good records in the regular season, might well be favourable.
