Cincinnati Reds crush Chicago White Sox 1-0 – MLB Spring Training
Cincinnati Reds crushed Chicago White Sox 1-0 at the Camelback Ranch in Glendale in Arizona on Monday, March 19 in their Cactus League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
For Chicago, Chris Sale displayed some high quality throwing skills, hitting a two hit ball over six innings. Despite striking out six batters for his team, Sale could not stop the Reds from earning a deserving win. Starter Homer Bailey gave up just three hits in four scoreless innings after proving expensive in his previous two starts this spring.
"The big difference today, I was able to keep the ball down," Bailey said. "My last game was the only one I was unhappy with. I thought I was going to go five, but they told me to take it easy. I went and threw some more in the bullpen. This is the best I've felt."
"We talked before the game about doing everything we can to win one-run games," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "We didn't hit much, but we got just enough to win. Valdez is a smart player. He just wanted to stay out of the double play."
The Reds will be very pleased with the way they handled pressure against quality opponents. Showing great composure and fighting abilities, the Red clinched an important victory to earn their eighth win of this spring. However, Dusty Becker and his men have also lost ten games since the start of Spring Training.
The Reds made won the Nationals League Central Division title in 2010 but they have not won the World Series title since 1990. It will be interesting to see if the Reds defy the odds this season to reach World Series finals.
The White Sox is having a forgettable time this spring. With just five wins in 16 games, they are clearly struggling to work out a way to win games. The Sox had a number of scoring opportunities during the contest but their hitters failed to post a single run on the board. They will be hoping to make a strong comeback in their upcoming spring game.
