Cincinnati Reds crush San Francisco Giants 8-1 – MLB News
Cincinnati Reds crushed the San Francisco Giants 8-1 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on July 01 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Reds outplayed the Giants in every department of the game and won with quite ease. Their batters and pitchers played wonderfully and showed great offensive plays throughout the game. Especially the Reds’ hitters played a key
role in their team’s great win.
"We haven't had a big inning in a while," Frazier said. "We were talking with (manager Dusty Baker) about that the other day. We had a little meeting. We were like, 'When was the last time we had a big inning?' To have one was
pretty nice."
They all played well and rattled the Giants’ top class pitching lineup with great force. First baseman Joey Votto scored one run on one hit. He scored one run on one hit on his four at bats while he also maintained his slugging
percentage at .514.
Second baseman Brandon Phillips scored two runs on two hits on his three at bats. He also played well on the plate and managed to maintain his .424 slugging percentage.
"You want to play but with what we're looking at -- it's coming down harder, it's flooding in there -- at some point we've got to draw the line," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "You want to play the game, but it's pretty bad
out there. The field's in bad shape."
Third baseman Todd Frazier also played wonderfully as he scored two runs on two hits along with four RBIs on his consistent .410 slugging percentage.
Not only batters, the Reds pitchers also played wonderfully and pitched in right areas throughout the game.
Starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo pitched six innings and allowed one run only. Though he received two hits but he managed to strike out three Giants hitters on 3.50 ERA.
On the other hand, the Giants pitchers did not show any fighting spirit and received too many hits from the Reds’ offensive batting lineup.
Starting pitcher Michael Kickham pitched 2.2 innings and allowed seven runs on nine hits along with seven earned runs on 13.94 ERA.
