Cincinnati Reds defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 – MLB Update
Drew Stubbs, centre-fielder for the Cincinnati Reds had two strikes and RBI as the Reds took a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 3, 2011 at Goodyear Ballpark.
Dodgers’ starter Hiroki Kuroda gave up two RBIs and six strikes over two innings with two hit outs.
Stubbs, who batted at the top, started the Red’s third thrashing out infield single to third base and was chased by a Brandon Phillips single. Joey Votto's strike-out to first base attained Stubbs. Scott Rolen pursued with RBI single up the middle as Kuroda's
night came to an end.
After looking for a replacement spot, Reds’ left-hander Travis Wood charged well in his spring debut game, as he threw two scoreless innings. Wood gave up one strike and hit two outs.
In the fourth inning against Dodgers’ reliever Blake Hawksworth, Stubbs' two-out RBI double to right position scored Ryan Hanigan for a 3-0 win and got the Reds’ lead. Hawksworth provided three strikes over a single inning.
Matt Maloney, who is frustrating for a place in the Reds' bull-pen session, offered one run and three strikes over three innings. In the fifth, Xavier Paul strikes a lead-off double and posted on Jerry Sands' regular RBI single right through the middle.
Mike MacDougal gave a scoreless inning for the Dodgers. In the seventh inning, Reds’ lefty Aroldis Chapman got two hit outs.
The Dodgers will play their second successive night game on March 4, 2011 hosting the San Francisco Giants at Camelback Ranch-Glendale. Fifth starter Jon Garland will take on Barry Zito, and Dodgers’ closer Jonathan Broxton makes his second emergence of
the spring after a seven-pitch debut inning without giving a score.
Matt Guerrier, marked as a free agent to select the innings of misplaced reliever Ronald Belisario, also is listed to pitch. Rafael Furcal, Casey Blake and Juan Uribe are expected to sit having played last game but James Loney, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier
are projected back in the roster.
On the other side, Chad Reineke is the starting pitcher for the Reds, but appears for Dontrelle Willis to approach the bull-pen for the second time during this spring as he hunts for a bull-pen place. Willis offered two hits while pitching 35 throws in an
inning during his first game on February 28, 2011.
