Cincinnati Reds defeat Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 – MLB Recap
Cincinnati Reds defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, September 4 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
"That let me take a step back mentally and realize a couple of things, I just needed to quit thinking so much. We've done a great job with that all year, We've had a lot of come-from-behind wins. You can't ever give us breathing room," Jay Bruce said on his team’s performance.
Reds played exceptionally during the entire game and won in style. Their entire roster played well and rattled the Phillies with great force.
Cincinnati's upfront batting line-up and pitchers played beautifully and earned a great victory for their team.
"That was just to let him get his head together, You hate to sit a guy, but whatever works," Baker said
Starter Mat Latos was exceptional on the mound as he pitched seven innings and received only four hits. He allowed one run and struck-out six Reds’ batters on his consistent 3.69.
Relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman pitched one inning and did not received any run or hit. He retired two while he maintained his ERA at 1.23.
Reds' hitters also played well and scored some potential runs. Left fielder Ryan Ludwick scored one run and smashed one hit on his consistent .553 slugging percentage.
On the other hand, Phillies' starter Kyle Kendrick despite pitching well could not save the game for his team. He pitched six innings and allowed two runs and two hits. He retired three Reds’ batters and hammered with one homer as well on his 3.96 ERA.
"Basically our runners, they got all messed up, They got all confused. They didn't know where to go. It was a bad break. We could have had a hit there and a run for sure,” manager Charlie Manuel said and explained about his team’s defeat.
Relief pitcher Josh Lindblom pitched one inning and received one hit on his consistent 3.48 ERA. He struck-out two as he also could not help his team match the Cincinnati Reds brilliance.
