Cincinnati Reds defeated by San Francisco Giants 4-6 in Game 5 of NLDS – MLB Recap
Cincinnati Reds lost to the San Francisco Giants 4-6 in Game 5 of their five-match National League Division Series on Thursday, October11 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
With this defeat, the Reds are now out from the World Series race. Reds’ played under pressure throughout the game and lost in the end. They could have played much better but the pressure of being in the final game of NLDS was huge as they could not handle it, which proved disastrous in the end.
"Unreal, That guy's definitely the MVP of our team. We believe he's the MVP of the league. We wouldn't be here without him, that's for dang sure. He's the one that's been the face of the team all season long. What a great story with all he's been through last year," Sergio Romo said later in the game as he explained about his team’s performance in great detail.
Reds’ upfront batting line-up failed miserably against the seasoned pitchers of Giants. They scored four runs which were not enough for them to seal the victory.
Only few players showed some temperament and scored early runs for the Reds while rest of Cincinnati side just could not perform.
"You don't want to be in a lose-and-you're-out scenario, We've been in that situation for three days. we're probably going to sleep well tonight," said Jeremy Affeldt.
Second baseman Brandon Phillips batted five times and received two hits along with two RBIs. He showed some offensive plays at the early stages of the game as he also remained consistent on his slugging percentage at .625.
Shortstop Zack Cozart added one run on one hit while his slugging percentage remained consistent at .238.
"Buster Posey's swing was a series-changer, That made it very difficult to come back. You know they're going to throw the kitchen sink at us," said Reds' star Joey Votto.
Reds’ ace first baseman Joey Votto was also disappointed with his performance. He smashed two hits while his slugging percentage of .389 also could not much his team to avoid a humiliating defeat.
