Cincinnati Reds edge Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 – MLB Recap
The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 on Wednesday, May 9 at Miller Park, Milwaukee in their final match of three-game regular series encounter of 2012 Major League Baseball season.
With this delighted win, the Reds have also won the series 2-1. First baseman Joey Votto ended the ninth inning scoreless tie with his deserted RBI which ultimately proved winning factor for the Reds in the end.
Brewers’ starting pitcher Zack Greinke and closer John Axford also played well for their team but could not hold until Votto and his team-mates stole two runs from them ousting Milwaukee from the series.
Later, the star of the game, Votto commented in the media in the favour of both Brewers’ pitchers, who undoubtedly played a key role for their team for almost eight innings while losing the composure in the final inning of play. Votto said appreciating, "Zack is always a handful, John Axford is a very good pitcher in his own right, and then we stole one from him. I don't want to use the word surprising, but it's great whenever you can sneak out a win against those two pitchers."
After the game, Axford also explained little about his outing. He said, "I made a good pitch to Votto, but he put a better swing on it, got his hands in there and it was literally like an inch away from Rickie catching it, The ball after that, it was just kind of, throw the bat out there and hope you make contact and it dropped in.”
From start to end, the game was played at a low pace. Brewers did play slightly aggressive in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Reds always pushed them behind and never allowed any loop holes to score. The match was decided in the ninth when the Reds proved more vigilant than the Brewers scoring two quick runs and ultimately gave their opponents bitter shattering of series defeat as well.
With this particular win the Reds are now sitting quite comfortable at second position in National League Central behind the St. Louis Cardinals.
