Cincinnati Reds edge past Atlanta Braves 4-3 – MLB Recap
The Cincinnati Reds rose to the occasion on Tuesday, May 22 and once again impressed the Braves’ offence when they defeated them 4-3 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter at Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati.
Rattling their opponents for the second straight game, the Reds now got a strong position in their four-match series with bigger chance of taking away the series as well.
Reds’ second baseman Brandon Phillips homer on two occasions guaranteed the win for his team. "I started doing push-ups. That really helped me a lot, He said you've got good hands, use your hands," said Philips.
The Braves had also their chances, but they could not play as one unit giving away the game to the Reds which could have a close encounter. "It is pretty wild, They hit some, we hit some. Ten in two games is a lot, I don't care what ballpark you're in. You
don't expect that." said Braves leadoff hitter Michael Bourn.
The Braves starter Brandon Beachy played poorly and could not hold the Reds’ batting offence instead hammered for three homers which were the ultimate winning factor for his opposing team.
"I'm not going to make the ballpark an excuse for any of those three home runs, none of the three pitches was where they were supposed to be. Other than those three pitches, I pitched the way I wanted to tonight." said Beachy.
The Braves from start of the game looked too exhausted to match the Reds athleticism. Though their two to three players in batting lineup proved little hurdle for the Reds however, the rest of the roster simply outplayed by Cincinnati pitchers.
The one run lead early in the first inning was not enough for the Braves as they later saw the Reds’ hammering until eighth inning as they eventually overwhelmed them with a 4-3 win.
The win has improved the predictability level of the Reds being the eventual winners of this series. On the other hand, the Reds are also enjoying being at top of the game as their win percentage is well over .500.
