Cincinnati Reds edge past Colorado Rockies 7-5 – MLB Recap
The Cincinnati Reds edge past the Colorado Rockies 7-5 in the final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, May 27 at Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
With this win, the Reds also won the series 2-1 and strengthened their chances against the National League Central’s third place Pittsburgh Pirates in the next three-match series.
Third baseman Todd Frazier played well for the Reds and helped his team to win the game as well as the series.
His homer in the fourth inning proved the winning factor for the Reds when the Rockies were looking more aggressive.
"I felt the bat slipping out of my hands," Frazier said. "I looked at the (slow motion) and it looks like my bottom hand is off. At first, I thought it was a short popup, but then I took a couple of steps and said, 'Oh.' It's a pretty interesting way to
hit a home run. It was a pretty cool."
Overall the Rockies played more offensive as their four hitters hit homers and kept the Reds’ pitching offence under pressure. Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez Troy Tulowitzki, Michael Cuddyer and Dexter Fowler certainly did what they are capable of doing. With
each player hitting a homer, the Rockies’, until eighth inning, were kept thinking of winning the game, but suddenly the Reds came back in the game and held their opponents with tremendous ball play.
The Reds’ closer Aroldis Chapman pitched the last inning with complete composure and never allowed any Rockies’ batter to hit him freely. He struck out one and won the series decisive game for the Rockies.
"You have a day here with this kind of weather, the ball travels real well in this ballpark, The evidence of that is the Frazier home run that was hit.” Later in the game, Colorado manager Jim Tracy said on his team’s loss and also told the reporters about
the different aspects of his side’s poor performance.
In the meanwhile, now the Reds will be playing against the Pittsburgh Pirates in their next series and the Rockies will confront the Houston Astros from Monday, May 28.
