Cincinnati Reds for weighing every option – MLB Update
The Cincinnati Reds general manager, Walt Jocketty said on Monday, December 19, that the club was busy sorting out the roster. With the arrival of talented pitcher, Mat Latos, who was traded only last week from the San Diego Padres, the Reds seem ever more
braced for taking up the bigger challenges in the days to come.
An important thing to note is that the Cincinnati Reds are not limiting their options, as in remaining content with induction of a player. Rather, the club’s general manager has established an office in Phoenix area as a western base of operations.
The team currently seems to be in need of a closer and a left fielder. While there are a lot of options available in the free-agent market, if one were to look, the club does not reveal the intentions it has to get the players it needs. Earlier, there were
reports that the Cincinnati Reds were interested in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ left fielder, Jason Kubel. Any talks in this regard did not eventually have the kind of favourable result the club was expecting.
That is what Jocketty referred to when he expressed his view about the issue, “We were interested in Kubel and I talked to his agent,” Jocketty said. “The level money-wise, we weren't going to get to that level.”
Kubel became the part of the Arizona Diamondbacks for no less than a $15-million contract. The reported deal is said to be of two-years, all set for the left fielder. “I spoke with his agent last week. He's still part of the mix,” Jocketty added. “I think
we're going to look at the pitching situation. First, we'll address the bullpen a little bit. Once I get pitching done and know what we have left to spend, we'll know more about left field.”
Pat Burrell, Ryan Ludwick, Carlos Guillen, Jason Michaels and Rick Ankiel are all left fielders available to the club. However, it is only a matter of choice and less is known as to what the team finally gets once it decides to sign a player.
